OUR PROJECTS

The housing crisis in Griffin began decades ago, but the tornadoes of 2023 amplified the urgent need for affordable housing. The recent tornadoes that ripped through Griffin, GA destroyed over 100 homes, leaving hundreds of families homeless. The majority of the properties affected by the tornadoes were rental homes that landlords have long neglected.

The 5181 Foundation sees every challenge as an opportunity.

Our Housing Development Initiative helps ensure that those we serve will live in quality, safe housing. This is achieved by reclaiming property damaged by the tornadoes, working with local established contractors and the City of Griffin to insure quality, working alongside other not-for-profit organizations to create affordable housing, and finally partnering with Parks, Parks, and Parks LLC for real estate management.

The 5181 Foundation is achieving more with our initiatives than ever before, and we are very proud of the progress we continue to make. Below are some of our current projects.

547 N. 6th Street

Built in 1911, this home has exchanged owners a few times before falling into the hands of the Baird family in 1986. This home severed as a rental home for many years until it suffered structural damage from the January 12, 2023 tornado. This property was generously donated by Susan Mosher to The 5181 Foundation in October of 2023.

Our future plans for the property is build a two bedroom, one bath home that will serve as affordable, quality housing for a future family.
